I Believe

I believe.

I believe because I’ve seen the evidence. I’ve seen people stab accusations at Christianity, and Christianity handle them perfectly. I’ve heard the arguments against Jesus. I’ve seen debates about it all. I see how Christianity has stood the test of time. I’ve heard and read stories of Christians dedicating their entire lives to Christ. I’ve not only seen them live for Christ, but I’ve also seen them die for Christ.

All the evidence points to Christ. The evidence is undeniable, it’s just hard to accept because of the change it demands if you really do believe it. The story of Christianity is radical. It is hard to believe, demanding, and takes a whole lot of cynicism if you are a believer of it. Why would people want to believe it? Because it is true. They want to deny it because of their emotional struggles or intellectual questions but they aren’t willing to believe the evidence when they see it anyway. For some, no amount of evidence will change the way they think because they aren’t willing to give up something—their livelihood, their family, friends, or status. Or, like Satan they believe God exists, but they don’t want to change or live for Him. It’s just a matter of choosing to have faith. If the evidence is there, are you willing to believe it? Are you going to admit that you were wrong about your beliefs when you see that the Bible really is true? Are you going to surrender your life because of the amazing testimonies you’ve heard? Will you do that?

If you ask me why I believe I’ll say it’s because of the amount of unsurpassable evidence that I see that I believe all points to Christ. Not only that, but Christianity is also one religion that you see millions of people dying for. Not only dying for but living for. Over thousands of years, many Christian lives have changed radically for the better like Paul the apostle, or so many others that have abandoned their secular lives in search of something better, more believable–like Christianity. When I examine all the people that have been martyrs for Christ, willing to go to the grave for their faith, I see true faith in the face of despair.

If you put a gun to a Christian’s head, a true Christian who really does believe all the gospel says in its entirety, and tell them to deny God or they’ll die, they will refuse to deny him. They would rather die than admit to something that they so desperately believe the opposite of. If this does not convince you, I do not know what will. A real-life example of this is a girl named Rachel Scott; she was a martyr for her faith in high school. Rachel Scott was a target of a school shooting because of the immense way she lived out her faith in God inside and outside of school. On the day of the school shooting one the shooters, a fellow school student asked her if she believed in God, and knowing that she would probably be shot for her answer, she said, “you know I do” and just like that, she died. There are numerous stories like this one and they demand an answer. You don’t see atheists dying for their faith all the time. If you were to hold up a gun to the head of an atheist and ask them to deny their belief that God does not exist or die, they would probably submit and deny their disbelief in God. Clearly, they do not have strong belief in what they hold to be true and in what they live out because if they did, they would probably be willing to die for it. Christians are willing to die for their faith. It still happens today. In my opinion, you should have such a strong belief in something that you are willing to die for it because that is the sign of true belief, no matter how hard the reality of it is.

C.S. Lewis said, “Only a real risk tests the reality of a belief.”

So yes, I believe in Christ. In Christianity.

I believe.
